Osmosis

Osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules through differentially permeable membranes. It moves from the high water potential molecular region (ie low concentration solution) to the low water potential molecular region (ie high concentration solution) by osmosis until the concentration inside and outside the living cell is balanced.

When the salt water touches the candy bear, the water starts to leave the candy bear and it shrinks.
